Mola Work

What is mola work in textiles?
Well it is a technique used in textiles where different types of fabric are layered together and pinned in place. Then with tailor's chalk a pattern is drawn on to create a line to sew around. Once the layers of fabric have been sewn together look at the pattern and using scissors cut out the fabric in one section. Once you have gotten to the layer / fabric you like stop cutting and do so with the rest of the pattern. This is also known as reverse applique.
Mola is part of the traditional dress of a Kuna woman. In their native language 'mola' means 'shirt' or 'clothing'. The technique originated from body paint that was painted on the bodies of the kuna woman in geometric patterns.

Animation - research

I am thinking to try and create a small animation along with my story board and I have looked into how to create a quick and easy animation and I got flip books. I have chosen a short simple on and the other because its time consuming and works really well.

Inspired by Chen Yingjie

Using drawings from my life drawing I have tried to create something similar to Chen Yingjie's work with the splatters and controlled lines. I haven't used colour as I wasn't feeling that confident but I feel that the black and grey has worked well. I have used ink for these to paintings and I enjoyed doing these but to prefect theses more I would need to practice the technique more and maybe try and use pens similar to what Chen uses.

I haven't managed to create the image that I expected but that would come after lots of practice but as an attempt it has worked well.

Shane Turner

Shane is a Canadian artist. His art ranger from abstract art to surrealistic pop art that is bright and colourful. Shane's work is influenced by graffiti, music, street art and pop art, also comics which allows him to create his modern art.

Shane has created some pieces of work that can relate to Adam Martinakias with using human figures to create and become the artwork although these are not real human figures.

These 2 are black and white prints that have been coloured using different materials.
