dada

DaDa is an art movement that began during the First World War. It began in Zurich which is in Switzerland and it was a negative reaction to the horrors that the war brought. The dada artists had their aim to destroy what art was and to create their own new style. DaDa is an anti-war and anti bourgeois art movement.
The founder of DaDa is a writer called Hugo Ball. In Zurich 1916 Hugo started a nightclub called the Cabaret Voltaire with a companion Emmy Hennings on the 1st of February. This nigh club was used for political proposes and by artists, guest artists were invited/came and gave either a musical performance or readings at the meetings they had.
A magazine wrote Ball "will bear the name "DADA","DADA, DADA, DADA, DADA." was one of the first publications of dada. Slowly this art movement became international and was the basis of surrealism in paris afar the war.

Alfred Jarry influenced DADA and Alfred himself was very absurd in his work. He created a play called Ubu Rai which was so bizar it was not accepted by the audience was as a result it was only shown that one day.
