Costume life drawing

Today we have had life drawing and i decided that the model could wear my costume so that i could see it on someone other than myself and paint it. I really like these painting.

This current project.... which means i have 3 bodies of work (the process and final pieces) and my life drawing 

Getting messy

So i had the spontaneous idea to destress which was much needed and i love the outcome (the image just below) This involved about 5 students all using different materials. I chose paint and to try out plaster in cups thrown and left to et in the form they were left. I also used some tights stuffed with wodding and i started to leave the cups that had the paint in them which added effect. This was filmed to go with the video scribing.

I have taken parts of the image and separated them as we binned the paper as it was soaked and wasn't going to be dry any thing soon. I have taken the images on a black background as it makes them stand out and you can clearly see the colours and the use of different materials.

The image below show the one plaster mould of a cup which i threw on the paper and the cup i got it from. i love how it has cast the features of the cup.

Artists

I have looked at marvin gaye chedwynd before and i like how she creates her work well her creature. It wasn't out together the best way but the over all finished monster looks good and does what she wants it to do. Thats why i create my costumes in the way i do, its easy and quick to do. There are some mistakes but I'm not doing this course to become a taylor or fashion designer I'm a fine artists and its what i do with these costumes not the actual costumes them selves.

Above is her spartacus and around it are students which have been invited to do a performance with it. They have created there own costumes and have come up with the choreography. The costumes that the students have made are not put together perfectly but they work very well as its a performance not how how well the costumes are made. 

Marvin also painted the room around the monster she made. She did so with her body.

Costume

So i have decided to start making something and what i have thought of is trousers oversized obviously. I have added wire round the top to keep the shape of the trousers and so i can attach elastic like braces to hold them up.

Once i had done these i got a little stuck and wasn't sure where i was going with this. I Loved the trousers but what next?

So here i am trying to get some inspiration, I may look silly but it got me in the mood to make more things. I also stuffed the trousers which give them more volume and you can't see me under them.

After this came the hats, Rather similar to shower caps but on a larger scale. It took me a while to figure out how to create them but once i had figured it out it was easy to make these.

Many students have said i look like one of the jelly fish from sark tale. Here is a picture for comparison. And to be honest i did agree when i saw the photos.

I then wanted to make one with a  different see though material as i thought about putting balloons in the hats and with one with a non see through materials you wouldn't see the colours just the shapes of the balloons. So i tried a double wrap one with the thought it may not work but it has.  

I then needed either a top or something else and i decided to try make a tie. With many difficulties i manages to make one and this is the full costume.

How does this go into alternative miss world?
Where do i want this to go?

I am wanting to video scribe the design, making, and movement of my costumes. Recently i have drawn and painted my items as 1 costume.

This links because it is wearable and rather out there. To me its fun and i enjoy making and wearing the items.
I don't know where it links with the underpinned theme of letters and numbers but it likes with alternative miss world.

Where do i want to take my work?
I don't just want to do textiles with a hint of 3d i wasn't to transfer what i create into 3d, then create something from that. this would broaden my work and the materials i use regularly. I feel like i would benefit this and to me the idea sounds exciting.

Since September i don't think i have come far from where i was last year. The only other thing i have got now is that I have started to work with latex to create a mask which i am finding fun but it is a laborious process.
So far I have created 3 items of clothing using wire and card as well as fabrics, these are similar to my bouncy dress and my metamorphosis costume. I have had the chance to paint and draw all of the 3 items of the life drawing model which i have enjoyed. I feel as though i am getting more out of life drawing this year although it is only just becoming my own style and i am feeling comfortable with it. I am to actually beginning to like painting but with my hands.
With uni's i have come a long way as i didn't have much of an idea of where i wanted to go let alone the costs, they hadn't even come across my mind. I have narrowed it down to 2 uni's which i like and for 1 of them i have worked out how much ill get and what ill need and how much ill have when i am at uni. Im happy with where i have come with this.
Personally i think i need to blog more as last year i was up to date with everything, my diary is no where and my reflective practice is everywhere. Just feels so unorganised this year.

Costume

I decided i wanted to get creating and i have made some trousers in a similar way to how i make my bouncy skit last year i have attached a wire ring the the inside of the thrower top and attached elastic like braces to hold them up. I then put my decorated box on top and i do like it although i need to do something with the box. Later on i made a head piece that i rather love, stuffed it with wodding and surprisingly it stays on my head. I wanted to try different material and look around for something see through as i was thinking of trying to add colour or maybe lights to the inside to make it different and not just one material so i saw bubble wrap and with hesitation i started to sew not thinking it would work but it did. i was amazed.
